Motherwell saw its UEFA Champions League dream all but killed off after suffering a 2-0 home defeat in its third-qualifying round, first-leg clash with Panathinaikos.

Stuart McCall's side had its fair share of possession and half chances but lasted just 13 minutes of its debut in the competition before conceding.

The manner of the goal would have been deeply frustrating for McCall as an inswinging free-kick from Lazaros Christodoulopoulos found its way inside Darren Randolph's far post as the home side failed to attack the delivery.

Substitute Charis Mavrias broke away in the 76th minute to give Motherwell a mountain to climb to reach the play-offs when it travels to Athens next week.

Henrik Ojamaa lost the ball on the edge of the area after a Motherwell free-kick and the visitor cleared the ball to Ibrahim Sissoko, who played a perfect throughball for right winger Mavrias and he fired the ball through Randolph's legs.

Dynamo Kiev came from behind to take a narrow 2-1 lead into the second leg against Eredivisie side Feyenoord.

The Ukrainian outfit fell behind to Ruben Schaken's strike four minutes after the interval, a goal that could prove crucial in the outcome of this tie.

However, Lex Immers put into his own net to give Dynamo a way back into the encounter seven minutes later and Ideye Brown scored the winner on the evening in the 69th minute.

Feyenoord can be more than pleased with its effort after holding its own against its conqueror and it is by no means out of this tie heading into the second leg at De Kuip.
