Yobo set for Fener deal

3 August 2012-PA Sport

Everton has confirmed it is in discussions with Fenerbahce regarding a transfer of Joseph Yobo to the Turkish club.

The 31-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan with the Super Lig side, helping it to the title in his first season.

Yobo made 42 appearances for Fenerbahce last season as it finished second in the table.

Yobo was David Moyes' first signing when he joined Everton in 2002 from Marseille and has made 220 league appearances for the Toffees.

He became the first African player to captain the Toffees, when in 2007 he led the team out in its 2007 UEFA Cup Group A tie against Larissa at Goodison Park.

However with Sylvain Distin, Phil Jagielka and John Heitinga ahead of the Nigeria international, Yobo left for first team football in August 2010.

After an initial year at Fenerbahce, Yobo returned to Merseyside before going back to Turkey for a second season-long loan.

And with Yobo a regular at the Istanbul side and unlikely to break into the first team at Goodison Park any time soon, the Merseyside outfit has accepted an offer which will see him leave the club on a permanent basis.
