Simao quits Besiktas for Espanyol

18 August 2012-AFP

Portuguese international winger Simao Sabrosa has signed for Espanyol, the Spanish top-flight club has said.

The Catalan club revealed that Simao, 32, has agreed to a two-year deal, subject to passing a medical.

Simao, who has spent the last 18 months in Turkey with Besiktas, had a spell with Barcelona earlier in his career and has also spent three-and-a-half years at Atletico Madrid, with whom he won the UEFA Europa League and European Super Cup in 2010.

Espanyol, which begins the new Liga season at Mallorca on Sunday (AEST), has also signed Spanish World Cup-winning left-back Joan Capdevila this northern summer.
