Injury woes continue for QPR

28 September 2012-PA Sport

Queens Park Rangers is without four crucial defenders for its London derby against West Ham United.

Anton Ferdinand, Jose Bosingwa and Fabio are all out with hamstring injuries and Armand Traore is also unavailable.

Striker Andy Johnson is out with a long-term knee injury but midfielder Adel Taarabt could return, after missing the last two matches with a hamstring problem.

Meanwhile, Hammers midfielder Gary O'Neil has recovered from the knee injury he sustained during the side's defeat to Wigan Athletic and will be fit to play in the derby.

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce is likely to make wholesale changes from the team that was beaten 4-1 in the Capital One Cup, although Modibo Maiga could keep his place after scoring the side's only goal of the match.

On-loan striker Andy Carroll is unlikely to play and Jack Collison is unavailable but Yossi Benayoun could make his first start since moving back to West Ham on loan.

Meanwhile, Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez will be without defender Antolin Alcaraz and striker Franco Di Santo for his side's English Premier League match against Sunderland.

Alcaraz is still seven to 10 days away from a return to full fitness with a groin injury while the Sunderland match is expected to be too soon for Di Santo, who has a calf problem.

Martinez could be tempted to give a start to Mauro Boselli, who scored two goals in Wigan's 4-1 Capital One Cup win and other fringe players, after announcing the competition for starting places was open.

In other Premier League news, Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill will make a late decision on winger Adam Johnson ahead of the clash with Wigan.

Johnson was used as a substitute in Sunderland's 2-0 Capital One Cup victory, after recovering from a thigh problem, but did not train.

Although fresh scans showed no further damage, he will be assessed again and a decision made on his fitness.

Defender Carlos Cuellar and midfielder Sebastian Larsson, who both missed the Cup match through injury, have returned to training and could figure.

Skipper Lee Cattermole starts a three-match ban following his fifth red card of his Black Cats career and Phil Bardsley and Wes Brown are still short of match fitness.

Meanwhile, Swansea City is boosted by the return of Chico Flores and Nathan Dyer from suspension for its trip to Stoke City.

Defender Flores has missed three games since his red card against Sunderland, while winger Dyer sat out the Capital One Cup win, after his dismissal against Everton.

Manager Michael Laudrup expects Jonathan de Guzman and Ashley Williams and Pablo Hernandez to shake off injuries to start.
