Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara has been ruled out of action for up to eight weeks after rupturing ligaments in his right knee in his side's 3-2 win over Sevilla, the club said.
"Tests performed on Sunday confirmed that the player suffered a rupture of the ligaments in his right knee. His absence is estimated at eight weeks," a club statement read.
Thiago came on as a 75th-minute substitute for Sergio Busquets against Sevilla which saw Barcelona score twice in the last few minutes to secure victory after being 2-0 down.
Barca's win at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan maintained its 100% record in La Liga this term.
Tito Vilanova's side face Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday (Wednesday morning AEST) and host arch rivals Real Madrid in El Clasico on Sunday night (Monday morning AEST).
