Juanfran out with knee injury

17 August 2012-PA Sport

Atletico Madrid winger Juanfran will miss the first game of the Primera Division season after spraining a knee ligament while playing for Spain.

The 27-year-old pulled up in the first half of the 2-1 friendly victory over Puerto Rico and later had X-rays and an MRI scan to determine the nature of the injury.

A statement on the Rojiblancos' official website read: "Juanfran has suffered a grade I-II sprain to the external lateral ligament of his right knee.

"He will be out of the first league match against Levante."

Further to the season opener, the injury could rule Juanfran out of the Super Cup final against Chelsea in Monaco on 31 August.
