Banega's car goes up in flames

31 July 2012-DPA

Valencia midfielder Ever Banega's car has burnt beyond repair in the second bizarre motoring incident linked to the footballer.

The incident happened when Banega was arriving at Valencia's training ground for an evening session.

The Ferrari, mysteriously burst into flames, although the player was able to flee without injury this time.

The fire damaged an area of woodland close to the training ground, and left the car a smouldering wreck.

The same car had been at the centre of an incident in February this year that left Banega with a broken left ankle, tibia and fibula.

Banega had forgotten to put on the handbrake while at a service station and the car rolled against his foot.

The Valencia footballer has not played since then, though he hopes to be fit for the start of the season in August. He joined the Primera Liga side from Boca Juniors in 2008.
