Mascherano agrees new deal

27 July 2012-PA Sport

Barcelona has agreed a contract extension with midfielder Javier Mascherano, the Primera Division club announced.

The new deal ties the Argentina international to the Nou Camp until 30 June, 2016, and includes a buy-out clause of 100 million euros ($118.13 million).

The 28-year-old will put pen to paper on the contract in the coming weeks, Barca confirmed in a statement on its website.

Mascherano joined Barca from Liverpool for a reported 22 million euros ($25.98 million) in 2010 and has played 97 official games for the club, and helped it win six titles, including the UEFA Champions League, Primera Division and Copa del Rey.
