Former Argentina coach Sergio Batista is poised to sign with Chinese Super League team Shanghai Shenhua.
The club said a news conference is scheduled for Wednesday to introduce its new coach. No other details were given on the club's website.
Batista has been in China since Friday and met on Monday with Shenhua's star signing, former Chelsea player Nicolas Anelka, who has been leading a five-man coaching line-up since the departure of Jean Tigana of France last month.
Chinese teams have recently been emerging from years of poor management and match fixing scandals to spend big on foreign coaches and players.
Among the recent signings, Marcello Lippi was hired earlier this month to coach big-spending Chinese Super League team Guangzhou Evergrande.
