Dundee gains SPL spot

3 August 2012-PA Sport

Dundee was officially inducted into the Scottish Premier League, replacing Rangers in the top flight.

The Dark Blues finished second in the Irn-Bru First Division last season, albeit 24 points adrift of champion Ross County, and was selected to replace Rangers ahead of Dunfermline, which finished bottom of the Premier League.

Charles Green's newco Rangers saw its SPL application rejected and will start the new season in the third division while a short SPL statement has now confirmed Dundee as its replacement.

The statement read: "At eight minutes past ten this morning, the member clubs unanimously approved the transfer of Rangers' SPL share to Dundee Football Club.

"Dundee FC is now a member of the SPL."
