Australia coach Holger Osieck has confirmed that Chris Herd will not travel to Edinburgh to join his squad for the upcoming friendly against Scotland.

Football Federation Australia has said Herd is still suffering from the effects of a quadriceps strain. The Aston Villa player has not yet been capped at senior level. Due to injury, he has had to withdraw from Socceroos squads twice before.

Kick-off against Scotland is scheduled for Thursday 16 August at 5am (AEST).

Osieck is using the friendly to prepare for the final round of the 2014 World Cup Asian Qualifiers, when his side will play Jordan on 11 September and Iraq on 16 October.

Australia has played Scotland on four occasions. In the most recent match, in 2000, the Socceroos won 2-0 at Hampden Park, with Brett Emerton and David Zdrilic bagging the goals.
