Boyd keen for Miller reunion

The pair spent two successful seasons at Rangers and their goals were a major factor in helping the club win back-to-back Scottish Premier League titles.

The partnership came to an end in the northern summer when Boyd left Ibrox on a free transfer to Middlesbrough.

Despite being separated, the pair have continued to find the back of the net, with Miller netting five in three games for Rangers this season while Boyd has scored once for the English Championship side.

And the Middlesbrough man is pleading with manager Craig Levein to let them loose on minnow Liechtenstein after Scotland drew a blank in its goalless draw against Lithuania.

"When I look back at what we achieved with Rangers it was a successful partnership," said Boyd.

"Between us we managed to get on the scoresheet in most games. But this is not about individuals. The most important thing is getting the points for Scotland.

"In saying that, I enjoy playing with Kenny. If we are picked on Tuesday I'm sure both of us would be happy to be back together.

"Kenny is doing well just now and I've seen the goals he has scored for Rangers. He looks sharp and deserves credit for his start to the season.

"We worked as a partnership and both had the responsibility of putting the ball in the net.

"If we get the chance on Tuesday then I'd like to think we could do it again. It would be a privilege to start for Scotland. Hopefully I can get that chance."

Boyd has netted seven goals in 16 international appearances and may have had more if it hadn't been for a self-imposed international exile while previous manager George Burley was in charge.

The 26-year-old was welcomed back in to the fold by new coach Levein and made a substitute appearance in his first match in charge against the Czech Republic.

Now Boyd hopes to repay his manager's faith in him by banging in some goals against the Group I whipping boy Liechtenstein, which was beaten 4-0 by world champion Spain.

Boyd said: "I'd love to get on the scoresheet against Liechtenstein and help us seal a victory.

"This will be a difficult game. We're expected to beat them yet it will not be as easy as it looks.

"If we can get an early goal then it would settle us down. Liechtenstein are fancied to finish bottom of the group but it won't be as easy as just turning up and taking the points. We will need to earn the right to a victory.

"I want to start games and score for Scotland. I've experienced it before and want more.

"Every goal is special for your country and it's great to score at any time."

Scotland could be without Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Steven Fletcher for the match, with the foot injury that caused him to miss the match against Lithuania likely to rule him out again.

Joining him on the sidelines is fellow forward Chris Iwelumo, who has a hamstring injury.

However there was some good news for manager Levein when defenders Lee Wallace and Kevin McNaughton rejoined the squad after injury ruled them out for the trip to Lithuania.

Goalkeeper Iain Turner has been called up to the squad after David Marshall injured his elbow.

Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher will captain the side in what will be his 50th cap for his country.
