Thrashing... Sami Khedira and Cristiano Ronaldo celebrate with Jese after he scored the final goal in Real Madrid's thumping of LA Galaxy. (Getty Images)
Real Madrid has opened its four-game tour of the United States by hammering Los Angeles Galaxy 5-1 in an exhibition match in Los Angeles.
Real Madrid scored three times in the first half through Gonzalo Higuain, Angel Di Maria and Jose Callejon.
David Lopez managed to find the back of the net for Galaxy during the first half, but it became a one-sided contest after the break, with Alvaro Morata and Jese adding another two in front of a record crowd of 30,317.
The score could have been much higher as Real consistently broke through the hapless Galaxy defence but was unable to convert many of its scoring opportunities.
The Primera Liga champion started the game with several of its biggest names on the bench, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Mesut Ozil.
They all went on in the second half but by then the outcome was already decided.
The new Primera Liga season starts August 18.
