Joe Mullen will take charge of Adelaide United for their 2010 Asian Champions League campaign after the Asian Football Confederation ruled coach Aurelio Vidmar ineligible.
AFC regulations currently stipulate coaches for the continental tournament must possess an AFC A Licence, however Vidmar has so far only achieved the B Licence meaning Reds youth team coach Mullen, who has all the necessary qualifcations, will step in.
"Joe Mullen is qualified as an AFC 'A' level accredited coach," Adelaide chief executive Sam Ciccarello said.
"Aurelio, who is in his third year coaching the club and took the club to the final of the AFC Champions League in 2008, will continue his role as senior coach."
Adelaide kick off their Champions League campaign on February 24 against Pohang Steelers in Group H and Mullen was happy to fill in while Vidmar completes the course after the group stage.
"I'm happy to help the club out and add my input in any way I can and in any capacity, so to help in this tournament will be great," he said.
