Kennedy bound for J-League

20 June 2009-SBS EXCLUSIVE

Socceroos striker Josh Kennedy is set to put a frustrating season in the German Bundesliga behind him after agreeing terms with Nagoya Grampus until 2011.

Don't miss The World Game on SBS One this Sunday from 5pm when host Les Murray interviews Socceroos star TIM CAHILL... with the Everton midfielder answering the questions you want to know the answers to.

Kennedy has been linked with a move to Japan in recent weeks and TWG can exclusively reveal that the 26-year-old has flown to Japan to put pen to paper on a contract with the J-League outfit.

The move closes the chapter on a season of mixed fortunes for Kennedy, who played a vital role in the Socceroos' World Cup qualifying campaign but struggled for game time at now-relegated Karlsruhe FC, netting just twice in 23 league appearances.

It is understood the lanky striker, who has spent the past nine years plying his trade in Germany, will look to finish his overseas stint in Japan.

Kennedy's aerial threat makes him a lethal target man and an ideal recruit for Asian clubs looking to capitalise on his set piece potency.

Antonis sorry to see Lavicka depart

Promising midfielder Terry Antonis said he would for ever be grateful to Sydney FC coach Vitezslav Lavicka for giving him the chance to become a professional player.
