Bundesliga leaders Austria Vienna have slipped to a 1-0 defeat at SV Kapfenberg but second-placed Salzburg were unable to take full advantage.
Markus Felfernig scored the only goal of the game seven minutes from time as the leaders slipped up, but Salzburg were held to a 0-0 draw at LASK Linz meaning the best they could do was narrow the gap to one point.
Three goals in the last 10 minutes - two from Christopher Drazan sandwiching one from fellow substitute Rene Gartler - gave Rapid Vienna a 3-1 win at basement boys Austria Karnten, for whom Leonhard Kaufmann had struck after 58 minutes.
Elsewhere, Sturm Graz won 2-0 at SV Mattersburg and SV Ried saw off Magna Wr. Neustadt 3-0.
