Football Federation Australia is expected to pursue its dream of staging an AFC Champions League final after the weekend decider in neutral Tokyo drew a 25,743 crowd.

Pohang Steelers of Korea Republic beat Saudi Arabia's Al Ittihad 2-1 in the final at the National Stadium that attracted a bigger-than-expected attendance.

The official figure for paying spectators has not yet been released.

The AFC will shortly examine the ramifications of turning its two-legged final into a one-off showdown but it will retain the current format of the final for two to four seasons.

And the FFA is expected to retain its interest in staging the event in Australia in the period.

"The attendance at the Champions League final was very encouraging for the AFC and all member associations," FFA chief executive Ben Buckley said.

"It shows that the reputation of the event is increasing and that fans are keen to watch the two best club teams in Asian football, regardless of where they're from."

The venue of the 2010 final will be annouced on the occasion of the draw for the 32-team event later this year.

Australia's representatives in the competition will be 2009 champions Melbourne Victory and beaten grand finalists Adelaide United.
