Central Coast Mariners remain leaders of the National Youth League after defeating Sydney FC 2-1 on Wednesday evening.
Boosted by first team squad members Andrew Clark, Adam Kwasnik and Ahmad Elrich, the visitors took the lead after just seven minutes when Kwasnik put away a rebound from a spilt ball by Sydney goalkeeper Nenad Vekic, who could only parry a blistering Elrich drive.
Mariners looked like taking a 1-0 advantage into the break until Joseph Gibbs unleashed a fierce strike that flew into the top right-hand corner of the goal to put Sydney on level terms in the 45th minute.
Central Coast scored the ultimate winner after 56 minutes when substitute Mitchell Mallia hit a nicely timed left-foot curler.
