Utaka goal earns Beijing a point

19 August 2013-PA Sport

Beijing Guoan continues to hold the third and final Asian Champions League spot after playing out a 1-1 draw with nearest challenger Guizhou Renhe.

However, Beijing left it late to snatch a point, trailing for much of the match to a 40th-minute strike from Qu Bo until Peter Utaka equalised nine minutes from time.

The result leaves both teams locked on 34 points, with Beijing one place better off on goal difference.

Guangzhou closed three points behind the pair thanks to a 5-1 hammering of bottom club Wuhan Zall.

Ning Jiang scored the opener after 25 minutes with Ayegbeni Yakubu adding another eight minutes later.

Ning netted his second of the match on the stroke of half-time before completing a hat-trick after 54 minutes. Yuan Zhang then wrapped up the scoring in the final minute shortly after Li Hang had scored a consolation for Wuhan.

Defeat leaves Wuhan eight points from safety with nine matches remaining.

Shanghai Shenxin moved two points above the drop zone with a 1-1 draw at Hangzhou Greentown.

Mao Jianqing (27) fired the visitor in front before Gao Di (65) replied for mid-table Hangzhou.
