Injured Traore out of AFCON

31 January 2013-PA Sport

Lorient striker Alain Traore is facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering a torn thigh muscle on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Burkina Faso forward is the leading scorer at this year's tournament with three goals, but lasted only seven minutes of his side's Group C clash with Zambia before leaving a heavily-sanded pitch on a stretcher.

Traore had started the match - which ended in a 0-0 draw to eliminate defending champion Zambia while Burkina Faso advanced - with his left leg strapped up.

Lorient has confirmed on its website that the 25-year-old has torn the quadriceps in his left thigh, an injury which will end his participation in the Cup of Nations and almost certainly delay his return to action for the Ligue 1 club.

He is due to have an ultrasound scan in South Africa before a decision is made on when he will return to France.
