Australian football star Harry Kewell joined the FIFA Football Committee for its inaugural meeting in Zurich at the weekend.

The committee, which is chaired by UEFA president Michel Platini, deals with structural issues within the game as well as relations between clubs, leagues, members and confederations.

Kewell, along with El Salvador player Jaime Rodriguez, Algeria international Rabah Madjer and English Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore, are the latest members to be added to the committee, which met on Saturday (AEDT) to discuss third-party player ownership, the state of women's football and player transfers, an issue of particular relevance to the club-less Australian.

“It was a wise decision to have joined forces in this revised Football Committee instead of having different forums dealing with the same matters," said Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer, the committee's special advisor.

"Football is not untouchable. We must deal with the important aspects of the game and this committee is the right forum, it represents the power of football."
