Chicago Fire missed the chance to close the gap at the top of the Eastern
Conference after a surprise 1-0 loss at New England Revolution.
Diego Fagundez scored the only goal of the match to leave Chicago four points behind conference leader Sporting Kansas City, who was held to a 0-0 draw at New York Red Bulls.
There was also a goalless draw between Toronto FC and Montreal Impact, but DC United came out on top in a five-goal thriller against Columbus Crew.
Eddie Gaven put Columbus ahead after seven minutes and after Nick DeLeon equalised, Jairo Arrier wiftly restored the visitor's advantage.
But, Marcelo Saragosa made it 2-2 just before the hour and substitute Lewis Neal snatched a winner in the last minute.
There were also plenty of goals as Houston Dynamo secured a 3-1 win over Philadelphia Union.
Jack McInerney cancelled out Macoumba Kandji's early opener, but Oscar Garcia put Houston back in front after 71 minutes and Brad Davis sealed the win from the penalty spot soon after.
Saturday's (Sunday AEDT) only away winner was Colorado Rapids, who won 2-0 at Chivas USA, thanks to goals from Martin Rivero and Kamani Hill in the first half.
