Portugal calls up Nelson for qualifier

Portugal coach Paulo Bento has called up Real Betis' Nelson for his side's 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Northern Ireland, following an injury to Fabio Coentrao.

Russia downs Portugal in Moscow

Real Madrid left-back Coentrao limped out of its match in Russia after 20 minutes and will miss the visit of Northern Ireland to the Estadio do Dragao, Portugal has confirmed in a statement on its website, www.fpf.pt.

Midfielder Raul Meireles also picked up an injury during training but Bento has decided not to call up a replacement for him, instead making do with the remaining 22 players at his disposal.

Portugal lost its 100 per cent start to its World Cup qualifying campaign after going down 1-0 to Russia and is now second in Group F, three points behind its opponent after three games.

Northern Ireland is fourth with one point from two games.
