Ogbonna pulls out of Italy squad

9 October 2012-PA Sport

Torino defender Angelo Ogbonna has withdrawn from the Italy squad ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Armenia and Denmark.

The 24-year-old was included in a 27-man squad named by Cesare Prandelli on Sunday but an inflamed prostate gland has forced the centre-back out of contention.

AC Milan defender Ignazio Abate sat out training in Coverciano, due to a cold, with Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti still nursing a bruised foot.

Prandelli has yet to announce a replacement for Ogbonna ahead of Saturday's (AEDT) Group B game against Armenia at the Hrazdan Stadium in Yerevan.

On Wednesday, the Azzurri welcome Morten Olsen's Denmark to the San Siro in Milan.
