Mauri to be questioned in Swiss probe

Italian media reported on Wednesday that Swiss authorities have asked for documentation from a wide match-fixing probe launched by Italian prosecutors in Cremona in 2011.

Mauri's interrogation has been scheduled a day after Lazio plays a UEFA Europa League game in London against Tottenham Hotspur.

The 32-year-old former international was briefly detained in May, along with 18 other people suspected of match-fixing.

He was released 20 days later and remains under investigation.

Swiss investigators are said to have looked into an account in the name of Mauri's parents and want Italian colleagues to ask the footballer about a suspicious money transfer of about 100,000 euros ($124,825).

Mauri's lawyer, Matteo Melandri, said his client was furious with the Italian media's front-page coverage of the development, arguing that Mauri was only expected to be heard as a witness, rather than as a suspect.

Other interrogations were requested for lower division player Marco Paoloni, 28, who was arrested in June 2011 and placed under house arrest two months later.

The Italian football federation (FIGC) in June banned him for four years.

Matteo Gritti, an Italian goalkeeper who played until the past season with Swiss side Bellinzona, is also to be interrogated in Cremona.

He was arrested in May and then released.
