Injured ... Wellington striker Paul Ifill (Getty)
Influential Wellington Phoenix striker Paul Ifill could miss the start of the new A-League season after an ill-timed injury in a warm-up game.
He is scheduled to see a specialist, with more information expected after scans.
Phoenix begins its season against Sydney FC at Westpac Stadium on 6 October.
Ifill was a key figure for Phoenix last season, as it performed above expectations in making the playoffs before being beaten by Perth Glory in the minor semi-final.
But the England-born Barbados international struggled with injury, a groin problem sidelining him for much of the early season.
The setback was particularly frustrating after a serious ankle injury late in 2010 kept him on the bench at the business end of the preceding season.
Carroll enjoyed Hammer time
Andy Carroll maintains he has enjoyed every minute of his season-long loan at West Ham but the long-term future of the England forward remains unclear.
