Olivier Giroud has been ruled out of France's opening qualifier for the 2014 FIFA World Cup against Finland on Friday evening (Saturday morning AEST), coach Didier Deschamps confirmed.
The Arsenal forward is suffering from muscular problems and has not taken part in any of the team's training sessions since Monday.
"He's going to work on his own to ensure that he can play the next game (against Belarus on 11 September)," Deschamps said on Thursday ahead of his first competitive game as France coach.
"Concerning his muscular problem, it's better for him to have more time. I would have preferred to have Olivier at his full capacity but that's how it is."
