Alex wants PSG improvement

Alex has called on Paris Saint-Germain to end its winless streak by defeating Lille this weekend.

PSG was expected to take Ligue 1 by storm this season following the lavish signings of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Lucas Moura and Thiago Silva.

Carlo Ancelotti's side has endured a disappointing start to the campaign, however, recording three straight draws against Bordeaux, AC Ajaccio and Lorient.

The season may be only three matches old, but the club's poor start is a cause for concern for some fans. Defender Alex, however, insists there is no reason to panic.

The Brazilian, who moved to PSG just after it was bought by Qatar Investment Authority, has been disappointed with the start the club has made this year, but is confident that its first win can come on Sunday (Monday AEST) at rivals Lille, against whom it only took one point last term.

"We have not made the best possible start to the season but we have time to catch up and to change this situation," Alex told PSG's website.

"We tried everything to find the breakthrough against Bordeaux [where it drew 0-0], but unfortunately, we couldn't do it.

"Now we have a week to keep working to try and find the key to unlock our next match.

"Lille are a very good team, but we caused them problems last season and I think we have every chance of winning."

Silva has yet to make his debut since making a 42 million euro ($51 million) move from AC Milan, and is likely to miss out on this weekend's trip to Stadium Lille Métropole as he continues to build up his fitness.

Marseille, unfancied by many after losing coach Didier Deschamps this summer, has started the season much better than the Parisian side.

Under new manager Elie Baup, it defeated Montpellier 1-0 last week to stretch its winning streak to three matches and maintain its place at the summit of Ligue 1.

Baup is set to bolster his squad before the transfer window shuts by signing Joey Barton from QPR and already has a new recruit in his ranks for the weekend's home game against Rennes after completing the capture of Brazilian defender Lucas Mendes midweek.

The 22-year-old, who has signed for an undisclosed fee from Coritiba, is eager to impress the OM fans and could make his debut this round.

"I am very happy to be here," he told the club's website.

"It was a dream for me to play in Europe and I thank Olympique de Marseille for giving me this opportunity.

"This is a great club, a very well-known club that is popular in Brazil.

"I am here to give the best of myself and I hope that the Marseille fans will be delighted with me."

Lyon, currently sitting in second, will be looking to bounce back from its disappointing 1-1 draw against Evian by beating third-place Valenciennes at home.

The other two unbeaten teams in the league – Toulouse and Bordeaux – take on Stade de Reims and Nice respectively.

Brest is desperate to make amends for its 4-0 loss to St Etienne by beating Troyes at Francis le Ble.

Bottom side Sochaux hopes to pick up its first point of the campaign at home to Montpellier while fellow strugglers Evian travels to AC Ajaccio.

The other two games see Lorient host Nancy and St Etienne travel to Bastia.
