Fired-up Flores plans 'explosive' return

Flores set the A-League alight in 2010-2011 with a string of sensational performances that landed him the coveted Johnny Warren Medal.

But after a stellar season in Australia, the Argentine playmaker joined Chinese Super League club Henan Jianye, where he struggled to make an impact.

Flores is now back in Australia as Victory's marquee signing and he said he can't wait for the season to start.

"I believe I have been handed an opportunity to play even better this season than I did two years ago with Adelaide," he said.

"I have some great memories from playing for Adelaide but now that I'm playing under Ange, he will help me develop more and I'm sure that the Victory fans will discover a new and more explosive Marcos Flores.

"As a footballer you never stop learning and I am sure that I will become a better player at Victory.

"In fact I am determined to show the fans that I can play better than I did two years ago and perhaps help them realise their dream (of the championship)."

With Postecoglou making a number of key personnel changes to the playing group, Victory looks certain to play a more attacking brand of football.

"I can already see that Victory is my type of team," Flores said.

"I believe in the coach and the style of play he wants to bring to the team.

"It is the style I grew up with in Argentina.

"Everything is going well and I am happy to be part of this club."

Flores could not hide his glee and relief at returning to a country he has loved ever since he first stepped foot Down Under.

"I am really excited. It's great to be living in such a great country again," he said.

"I'm enjoying my football and I can't wait for the start of the season.

"We are all expecting great thing this season because we trust and support each other and we all believe in our coach and his philosophy.

"This is the feeling I have after my first training sessions with Melbourne Victory ... that the team want to achieve something important."

Flores said his stint in China was frustrating essentially because he was never given the opportunity to show the fans his true worth.

"Look, I am not the type of person to make excuses," he said.

"My problem in China was that I am a playmaker but the team did not see the value of a playmaker.

"The coach had his thoughts, which I respected of course, but what's the point of buying a playmaker and not use him as such?

"I did not play a lot because I did not fit into the team's style so I did not have any chance to show my ability.

"At the end the club and I parted company by mutual consent."

Flores is aware of the disappointment shown by some Adelaide fans at his departure and subsequent signing for old rival Victory but he chose not to dwell on the subject.

"All I will say again is that I enjoyed playing for Adelaide and I have the utmost respect for the fans who always supported me," he said.

"I gave Adelaide everything."
