New York-bound ... Socceroos midfielder Tim Cahill to leave Everton for Red Bulls (Getty)
Australia star Tim Cahill is poised to complete a shock move to New York Red Bulls after Everton and Major League Soccer agreed a fee, reported to be some $1.5 million, for the midfielder.
Cahill has been a revelation with the Toffees since joining the club from Millwall in 2004, scoring 68 goals in 278 appearances, but is on the verge of exiting Merseyside to play in
A statement on the club's official website read: "Everton have agreed with Major League Soccer (MLS) that
"Tim, 32, will move to the Red Bulls for a nominal fee, subject to agreeing personal terms and passing a medical. He will travel to the US in the next few days."
Cahill proved to be one of David Moyes' shrewdest signings from Millwall, where he also enjoyed a similar goals-to-game ratio.
The Sydney-born attacker – who was a big hit on Merseyside for his all-action displays - fell down the Goodison Park pecking order last season in which he scored just three times.
During the past month Cahill has been linked with a big money offer from the Middle East but will now become just the second Australian to play in MLS - after danny Allsopp's spell with D.C. United in 2010.
