Celtic midfielder Beram Kayal believes entering newco Rangers into the bottom tier of Scottish football was the right decision.

Charles Green's newco club had its Scottish Premier League application rejected and has since been voted into the Irn-Bru Third Division by Scottish Football League clubs.

The 24-year-old Kayal, who is taking part in Celtic's pre-season after missing the second half of last season due to an ankle injury suffered in a fixture against Rangers, reckons the correct choices were made regarding the Ibrox club.

"We are talking about the Rangers situation a lot and my feeling is that when it happened to Juventus, Serie A got a lot weaker so what can we say about the Scottish Premier League?," said the Israel international told reporters.

"However, being fair is more important than anything else and I think that for football this decision is the right one. I'm happy I'm at a clean and healthy club with a big tradition and lots of titles."

Neil Lennon's side host Barclays Premier League outfit Norwich on Tuesday (England time) before welcoming Inter Milan to Celtic Park on Saturday.

With the Champions League qualifiers also on the horizon Kayal knows it is important to use the friendly fixtures to be fully prepared for its European clash with either HJK Helsinki or KR Reykjavik.

"European competition is starting soon," said Kayal, who did not feature in the 4-0 friendly defeat to Ajax on Saturday as a precaution.

"These friendly games are made to build the team's confidence and to lose isn't good. Players just got back from Euro 2012 and some of them are not in shape.

"We changed a lot of things, we are trying a new strategy but I believe that with this squad we will run forward."
