Hoogland signs for Stuttgart

28 June 2012-PA Sport

Tim Hoogland has moved from Schalke to Bundesliga rivals Stuttgart on a one-year loan deal, the Gelsenkirchen club has announced.

The 27-year-old defender, who played for the Royal Blues between 1998 and 2007 before spending three years with Mainz, has a contract with Schalke until 2014 but has failed to become a regular in his second spell with the club.

"We have several options at full-back and, after his long injury break, it made sense for both sides for Tim to get the opportunity of gaining some match practice in Stuttgart," said Schalke's director of sport Horst Heldt.

The move will be made official upon the successful passing of a medical while Stuttgart also has an option to make the transfer permanent next summer.

Hoogland has played a total of 36 Bundesliga matches, 15 for Schalke and 21 for Mainz.
