Tim Hoogland has moved from Schalke to Bundesliga rivals Stuttgart on a one-year loan deal, the Gelsenkirchen club has announced.
The 27-year-old defender, who played for the Royal Blues between 1998 and 2007 before spending three years with Mainz, has a contract with Schalke until 2014 but has failed to become a regular in his second spell with the club.

The move will be made official upon the successful passing of a medical while Stuttgart also has an option to make the transfer permanent next summer.
Hoogland has played a total of 36 Bundesliga matches, 15 for Schalke and 21 for Mainz.
