Keeper to be treated for burnout

Miller, 29, issued a statement through the club on Monday saying he was suffering from "mental exhaustion"

The decision by Miller comes almost two years after the death of Hanover keeper Robert Enke.

Germany international Enke, who had been suffering from depression, committed suicide in November 2009.

Club chief executive Martin Kind welcomed Miller's decision to seek treatment as "a great sign of courage".

A club statement said Miller had the full support of the team, management and coach Mirko Slomka, especially in view of the club's experience following the Enke tragedy.

Sport director Joerg Schmadtke said Miller's decision to go public and inform the management early on of his problems were "a sign of strength".

The priority now was for Miller to be successfully treated, he said.

"We will strengthen and protect him because he is being open in facing up to his psychological problems, which continue to be a taboo subject in our society," he said.

Miller, who joined the club in the summer of 2010 and is the club's reserve keeper, is expected to be treated as an inpatient for several weeks, the club said.
