Lens to leave PSV

23 November 2012-PA Sport

PSV Eindhoven winger Jeremain Lens has announced his intention to quit the club in the northern summer - and he hopes to sign off with another Eredivisie title success.

Lens joined PSV, after winning the league at AZ Alkmaar, in 2010 and has established himself as a regular in the Netherlands squad due to some fine displays at the Philips Stadion.

But the 24-year-old believes now is the time to seek a fresh challenge - preferably abroad.

He told Elf Voetbal Magazine: "At the end of this season, I will be 25 and then a transfer must come.

"I would like to leave PSV with the title but if that does not happen it is still no reason to stay.

"At this point in my career I need to go for my career and personal development.

"I don't have a real preference for a particular league but in terms of playing style England and Germany would suit me."

Lens's wish of another title in the Netherlands could be realised with PSV currently leading the table with a three-point advantage over FC Twente.

On Sunday (Monday AEDT), PSV hosts third-placed Vitesse Arnhem, which is five points off the summit.

And Dick Advocaat's men will certainly not underestimate their opponents - Vitesse's last away game was a 2-0 win at Ajax.

Fourth-placed Ajax will look to bounce back from a humbling 4-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League in midweek when it goes to struggling Roda JC.

The omens look good with Roda having conceded 10 goals in its last two Eredivisie matches.

The top four teams are all in action on Sunday (Monday AEDT) with second-placed FC Twente taking on PEC Zwolle in Enschede.

Steve McClaren's team has stumbled slightly of late and draws in its last two games - against Vitesse and FC Utrecht - has seen it slip off top spot.

Zwolle beat NAC Breda last weekend to pull away from the lower reaches while the result also prompted a managerial change in Breda with former player Nebojsa Gudelj taking over.

Gudelj's first game in charge will be Friday's (Saturday AEDT) home clash with ADO Den Haag.

On Saturday (Sunday AEDT), rock-bottom Willem II will look to end a run of five successive defeats when it hosts Heracles, second-bottom VVV-Venlo meets Heerenveen, FC Groningen goes to RKC Waalwijk and seventh-placed NEC take on FC Utrecht in Nijmegen.

Sunday's (Monday AEDT) remaining game sees Feyenoord visit AZ Alkmaar.

The Rotterdam side will again be without midfielder Kevin Leerdam who has been ostracised by coach Ronald Koeman after refusing to sign a new deal.

Koeman admits, however, the situation is far from ideal.

"It gives me pain," he told NUsport.

"Leerdam is a player who has always behaved correctly and did the maximum for Feyenoord but at some point I had to come to a decision in the best interests of the club."
