Unbeaten Cruz goes fourth

27 August 2012-PA Sport

Cruz Azul stayed unbeaten after six rounds of the Mexican Apertura as Mariano Pavone's second-half header secured a 1-0 win at Unam Pumas.

Pavone met a cross from the right with a firm header at the far post in the 69th minute for the only goal of the game.

It means Cruz Azul has three wins and three draws so far, putting it fourth in the table, four points behind leader Toluca.

Monterrey was a 2-1 winner away to Guadalajara thanks to a pair of second-half goals from substitute Humberto Suazo.

Rafael Marquez Lugo fired Guadalajara in front after 16 minutes but Suazo came off the bench for the second period and volleyed Monterrey level in the 57th minute before drilling a superb 20-yard strike into the top right corner four minutes later.

Puebla beat San Luis 1-0 thanks to a powerful second-minute strike into the top-left corner from Diego De Buen, while Atlante overcame Atlas by the same margin with Osvaldo netting with a clever lob in the 42nd minute.

For both Puebla and Atlante, the victories were their first this season.
