Perth crushes Gold Coast
Perth Glory extended its unbeaten run to eight games after a comprehensive 4-0 win against Gold Coast United at nib Stadium on Monday night.
Glory led 1-0 at half time thanks to a Steven McGarry goal in the 18th minute, but in fairness it should have been more such was its dominance.
The second half saw Perth run away with game, Liam Miller, Travis Dodd and an Adama Traore own goal, completing a good win for the competition's in-form team.
The win kept Perth in fourth spot, but just two points behind second-placed Wellington Phoenix.
Glory dominated the match from the outset, with Gold Coast looking somewhat leg weary after playing mid-week in Launceston against Melbourne Victory.
So it was little wonder when McGarry gave the 7,681 fans a lot to cheer about after 18 minutes, nodding home from close range.
Glory continued to press but the normally clinical finishing of Shane Smeltz deserted him, missing three quick chances that he would normally have taken. The closest of these was his second effort that beat United goalkeeper Chris O'Connor but not the post, while O'Connor saved the third effort with his legs.
It was more of the same at the start of the second half and Glory doubled its lead when Miller calmly slotted home in the 53rd minute.
Poor marking at a corner saw Dodd extend that lead to 3-0 and to compound the visiting side's sorry night, Traore diverted Miller's low cross into his own net for the final goal of the night.
