Chunnam Dragons captain Kwak Tae-hwi has been ruled out of Wednesday's Asian Champions League opener against Melbourne Victory after suffering an ankle injury in the K-League opener.

The Korea Republic international defender twisted his ankle during the 2-1 defeat by Pohang Steelers.

Kwak joins a lengthy injury list with fellow internationals Kim Chi-woo and Koh Ki-goo both sidelined.

"Kwak went to the hospital on Sunday morning for some tests," said Dragons coach Park Hang-seo.

"The diagnosis is that he needs a week of rest and so he will not be travelling to Australia for the game in Melbourne."

"It is not a serious injury and we are hopeful that he will be able to return to action and play against Gamba Osaka the following Wednesday."

The Dragons travel to Melbourne to face the A-League outfit on Wednesday before entertaining Japanese outfit Gamba Osaka in Group G on March 19.
