FC Seoul snares duo

27 July 2010-PA Sport

FC Seoul has strengthened its squad with the signings of midfielder Server Djeparov and winger Choi Tae-wook.

Djeparov, the 2008 AFC Player of the Year, joins on a six-month loan Uzbekistan powerhouse Bunyodkor, whom he helped to the semi-finals of the Asian Champions League two years ago.

"I have wanted to play in the K-League for a long time and it's an honour to play for FC Seoul, who are one of the best teams in Korea," the 27-year-old midfielder told the club's official website.

"I saw Seoul's matches in last year's AFC Champions League. Though they failed to reach the last-four stage, they were very impressive.

"I want to be a player who can help the team. I will do my best and try to show beautiful football. I hope the fans here will support me."

The capture is a coup for the K-League club given Djeparov, the Uzbekistan captain, is one of the more highly-regarded midfielders in Asia.

Choi, meanwhile, arrives from Jeonbuk Motors on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

The former Korea Republic  international was instrumental as Jeonbuk lifted its first K-League title last year and has also helped the Jeonju-based club to the quarter-finals of this season's Asian Champions League.

The 29-year-old boasts a record of 29 goals in 245 games in the K-League and enjoyed a fine season last term with nine goals and 12 assists.

Seoul, who currently lie third in the table, will be Choi's fifth K-League club after Anyang Cheetahs, Incheon United, Pohang Steelers and Jeonbuk. He also enjoyed a stint in the J.League with Shimizu S-Pulse.

Choi, who has played 29 times for the national team, is expected to be ready to face K-League leaders Jeju United on Saturday at Seoul World Cup Stadium.
