Kahn angered by Klinsmann appearance

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn was not impressed to see Jurgen Klinsmann at the Allianz Arena during Thursday's UEFA Cup clash with Getafe.

 

Klinsmann, who dropped Kahn from the Germany team in 2006, is set to replace Ottmar Hitzfeld as Bayern coach in the new season and was in the stands to watch the club's 1-1 draw.

However, Kahn believes his appearance was disrespectful, adding that his team could "do without any interference like this as they battle for three titles".

Kahn told Abendzeitung newspaper: "In my whole career, I have never heard of or experienced a future coach sitting in the stands during the season preceding his appointment."

"Everybody can decide for themselves what they think is correct, but I think his style was not very good and you don't do such a thing."

The 38-year old will face Bochum on Sunday (Monday AET) knowing he has only eight games of his career remaining.

He had been toying with the idea of delaying his retirement for another year but the appointment of Klinsmann, with whom he has a frosty relationship, has put paid to that.

Hitzfeld has demanded an improvement from the midweek European stalemate as Bayern close in on the Bundesliga title.

"The team must show a defiant reaction on Sunday and I hope we will be up for it," he said.

Striker Lukas Podolski should keep his place alongside Luca Toni in attack with Miroslav Klose remaining on the bench after being left out on Thursday.

There could also be room for Jose Ernesto Sosa on the wing in place of Bastian Schweinsteiger, who was disappointing against Getafe.

Bochum arrive in Munich full of confidence, according to coach Marcel Koller.

"We will play with respect, but with no fear," he said. "We have to take our chances with confidence."

Thomas Zdebel is suspended for the visitors.
