Inter Milan head coach Andrea Stramaccioni breathed a sigh of relief on hearing confirmation of Wesley Sneijder's decision to join Galatasaray during Sunday night's 1-1 draw at Roma.

News soon spread around the Stadio Olimpico that Inter's Dutch midfielder had agreed to move to Istanbul for a reported 7.5million euro ($A9.4 million) fee, subject to passing a medical, after Francesco Totti and Rodrigo Palacio had exchanged goals to settle the tie.

Sneijder's anticipated departure brings to a close the three-month stand-off between the player and the Serie A club, with the 28-year-old finding himself marginalised for publicly refusing to take a significant pay cut in his annual salary.

Stramaccioni is reported to be lining up Corinthians playmaker Paulinho as Sneijder's replacement, with Atalanta winger Ezequiel Schelotto also tipped to move to the San Siro.

Stramaccioni told inter.it: "I'm waiting to speak with the president, but as I've already said - in one way or another - it was important to bring things to a close.

"What transfer market moves? My players are doing just fine. If a midfielder comes in then he has to have characteristics that are different from those of the players I have.

"If not then we're fine just the same."

Totti put Roma ahead from the penalty spot when Andrea Ranocchia was controversially adjudged to have brought Michael Bradley down in the box, but Inter equalised on the verge of half-time as Palacio steered home Fredy Guarin's low cross.

"With respect to Roma and their obvious potential, we were always in it," Stramaccioni added. "And playing with two forwards plus Guarin showed that we were going to make our presence felt.

"Roma got off to a fantastic start, but towards the end of the first half and at the start of the second Inter were playing very well. In the end a draw was a just result.

"We were missing a few players up front and we felt their absence a bit."

Television replays showed minimal contact between Ranocchia and Bradley in the 20th minute but the USA international midfielder was convinced the penalty call was correct.

He told Gazzetta.it: "On the pitch it seemed like it was a penalty, maybe watching it on TV you got a different view of it.

"We've lost a few too many points at home so far in the league but the good thing is there are still lots of games left.

"We always go out on to the pitch looking to win and we're convinced we have the right attitude."
