Gasperini relishing Palermo challenge

19 September 2012-PA Sport

New Palermo coach Gian Piero Gasperini has no doubt about the challenge facing him at the Stadio Renzo Barbera, but is determined to eliminate the scepticism around the squad.

The former Inter Milan boss has replaced Giuseppe Sannino, who was sacked at the weekend after a 1-1 draw with Cagliari.

And Gasperini, who took charge of his first training session on Tuesday morning, believes upcoming matches against Atalanta, Pescara and Chievo give his side an excellent opportunity to kick-start its season.

"I see the scepticism around this team, but I'm very confident," he told reporters.

"Three games in a few days we see as an opportunity to boost ourselves immediately.

"We have before us a balanced championship. I'm sure that we will train a team determined to prove its worth and willing to convince fans through the performance and results."
