Barcelona and Chelsea provided entire back lines to a 20-player list of defenders in contention to be named in a FIFPro World XI.
Barcelona has five candidates for four places in the line-up: Dani Alves, Carles Puyol, Gerard Pique, Javier Mascherano and Jordi Alba.
Chelsea captain John Terry is joined by Ashley Cole, Branislav Ivanovic and David Luiz.
Real Madrid provides Sergio Ramos, Pepe and Marcelo, while Manchester United has Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand.
The shortlist also includes Gareth Bale (Tottenham), Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus), Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund), Vincent Kompany (Manchester City), Philipp Lahm (Bayern Munich) and Thiago Silva (Paris Saint-Germain).
The FIFPro World XI, chosen by 50,000 members of the global players' union, will be announced in January at the FIFA Ballon D'Or gala in Zurich.
