Schalke continued its good form with a 3-0 home win over another second-tier side, Sandhausen.
Ibrahim Afellay scored the first after 11 minutes, with
Freiburg scored at either end of the match in a 2-0 win at Eintracht Braunschweig.
Mainz was a 2-0 winner at home to Erzgebirge Aue,
Augsburg won 1-0 at Preussen Munster thanks to a 69th-minute effort from
Elsewhere, 1860 Munich won 3-0 at Berliner AK, Bochum won 3-1 at TSV Havelse, while Cologne needed a penalty shootout to see off Wormatia Worms after the match ended goalless.
