Bayern's Lala calls it quits

16 October 2012-PA Sport

Former Hannover and Albania midfielder Altin Lala has ended his playing career at the age of 36 due to a knee injury.

Lala left Hannover last northern summer after making 294 appearances and joined Bayern Munich to captain its reserve team.

But after just three appearances this term, he has decided to call it a day.

"I regret it very much that he is no longer available to us," the coach of Bayern's reserve team, Mehmet Scholl, told his club's website.

"He was a great guy and a top sportsman and all of us at Bayern Munich hope that he can make a full recovery and we wish him all the best for his future."

Lala was capped 80 times by Albania and was part of the Hannover side which gained promotion to the Bundesliga in 2002, remaining with it as its longest-serving player before moving on in June.
