Hoeness calls for humility

According to Hoeness, the club has been falling back on former values without justifying them on the field of play.

Hesaid that the "Mia san Mia" mentality, which reflects a Bavarian adage of togetherness, should not be used again until the club demonstrates on the field that they really are all for one and one for all.

"There was a bit too much said with these words in recent years and it was published everywhere too often," he said.

"I believe that we should only publish it again when we are back at the very top. You have got to be successful, then you can talk about it."

However, success would not have saved the job of Christian Nerlinger, who was dismissed as the club's director of sport.

Matthias Sammer has taken over and Hoeness says that decision had been taken long before Bayern finished second in the Bundesliga and lost in the finals of the DFB-Pokal and Champions League.

"He knew that I had been thinking about a change for months," said Hoeness.

"I never left him in the dark. The change would have been made anyway."
