Wolfsburg is to loan right-back Ibrahim Sissoko to Greek club Panathinaikos for next season after he found first-team opportunities hard to come by in the Bundesliga.
The 20-year-old was signed by Wolfsburg in January from Academica de Coimbra and, although he was unable to make the breakthrough last season – playing just twice – the Wolves are keen to keep hold of him for the future.
"In the mid-term, he should strengthen our team."
Sissoko has initially joined the Greek club for one year but that deal could be extended by a further 12 months.
Hoffenheim claimed a vital 3-1 win against second-tier Kaiserslautern in the first leg of the Bundesliga play-off.
