Bayern confident of re-signing players

21 February 2012-PA Sport

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is confident that a quartet of players will soon commit their futures to the club.

Ivica Olic and Daniel van Buyten are both out of contract at the end of the season, but Rummenigge expects them to remain with the club while Mario Gomez and Arjen Robben appear tempted to extend their contracts prematurely.

"I believe that Olic and Van Buyten will stay," Rummenigge told Kicker magazine.

"Both of them have shown an interest in staying and they have shown good character too."

Olic did not seem so keen to stay just a few months ago when a lack of first-team opportunities prompted him to request a move in the northern winter.

A transfer was blocked and he has since started playing more frequently under Jupp Heynckes, proving he can be a reliable back-up for Gomez, who Rummenigge also hopes will extend his stay with the club beyond 2013.

"I am cautiously optimistic that Mari will play for Bayern Munich for a long time to come," added Rummenigge.

And despite starting the last three games on the bench, Rummenigge believes Robben is also happy to stay with the Bavarian club.

"We are patient and we will find a solution," said Rummenigge, who knows now may not be the ideal time to enter into negotiations with the Dutchman, even if his advisors have told him that Arjen "keeps repeating that he and his family are happy".
