Nasri ruled out for France

9 November 2011-PA Sport

A knee injury has ruled midfielder Samir Nasri out of France's upcoming friendlies against the United States and Belgium.

The France Football Federation confirmed that Nasri was not fit to take his place after undergoing tests at its headquarters at Clairefontaine.

The 24-year-old is set to return to Manchester City to begin his recovery ahead of its next match against third-placed Newcastle United on November 19.

"Samir Nasri reported for France duty at Clairefontaine (Yvelines) with a left patellar tendon injury," a statement on the FFF's official website, www.fff.fr, read.

"A clinical examination and additional tests confirmed the inflammation and, consequently, the inability of the player to be fully fit has meant he will not play in the two internationals against the United States (Friday, November 11) and Belgium (Tuesday, November 15).

"Samir Nasri will now be allowed to return to his club."

Nasri was an unused substitute in City's 3-2 win at Queens Park Rangers after picking up the injury during the UEFA Champions League trip to Villarreal last week.

Nasri's injury is a further blow to France coach Laurent Blanc, who has delayed naming his squad with injury concerns also hovering over midfielders Yohan Cabaye and Florent Malouda.

Newcastle's Cabaye underwent a scan on Monday to determine the seriousness of a groin problem and Chelsea midfielder Malouda has a thigh injury.
