Gil escapes club sanctions

27 July 2012-PA Sport

Valenciennes defender Carlos Gil will face no club sanctions, despite a second absence from training as he seeks a transfer.

Gil, who returned to the Ligue 1 side almost a week late in January, following a leave of absence, was again missing last week.

But after Valenciennes made it clear it would not allow the player to return to his native Brazil to sign for Corinthians, Gil fulfilled a promise to rejoin the squadearl next week.

Club president Jean-Raymond Legrand told L'Equipe: "He has done what he said.

"He was polite and showed no rancour, even to me after I blocked (the move). He will not be sanctioned."
