Naismith eyes debut

16 August 2012-PA Sport

Steven Naismith says he is fit and ready to make his Premier League debut for Everton at home to Manchester United on Monday night (Tuesday morning AEST) – and hopes Toffees boss Davie Moyes feels the same.

The 25-year-old forward joined the Goodison Park club from Rangers after recovering from a cruciate ligament injury which decimated his last season at Ibrox.

After playing in Scotland's 3-1 friendly win over Australia at Easter Road on Wednesday night (Thursday morning AEST), Naismith turned his attention to United and possibly, his first appearance in the English top flight.

"I am looking forward to it," he said. "I have had a good pre-season and all that hard work is going to be put into practice.

"Hopefully with what I have done in pre-season and what I do in training in the next few days, I can show the manager that I am capable of starting."

Everton boss David Moyes has confirmed captain Phil Neville has already played his final game for the club, with the defender being ruled out of Sunday's (Monday AEST) English Premier League clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
